Tesla Accessory Retail Assortment: A Practical First-Order Plan
Choose a focused range around the vehicles your shop serves. Use a sample scorecard, a cost worksheet and a 30-day learning plan before expanding your first order.
Research-based buying guide. Updated October 7, 2026 by the TERVELIO Team. Based on current product listings and the linked sources. The worksheets are proposed retail workflows; we have not performed hands-on sample tests for this article.
A good first accessory order gives your team a small set of useful products they can explain confidently. For a detailing shop, that might mean somewhere to keep small belongings after the interior has been cleaned. For an installer, it might be a product customers already ask about while their car is in the bay. Start with those conversations before choosing finishes or quantities.
The aim is to learn what fits the cars you actually see and what your customers want to take home. A broad catalogue is helpful for research; it is not a reason to stock every category at once.
Look at the cars that come through your door
Review your recent jobs and separate vehicles by model and generation. A Model Y with an older console or cargo area should not automatically be grouped with a refreshed Model Y. Record the mounting area when a product depends on its shape, and note aftermarket parts that may change the fit. Use the Model Y generation guide as a starting point for questions, then check the individual variant.
Next to each vehicle group, write the requests you hear. “Where can I put charging cables?” is more useful than “interior upgrades.” “Will this come out for cleaning?” gives you a demonstration to prepare. If your team has not kept these notes, begin with the next few jobs rather than guessing demand from a popular social post.
Choose products with an everyday job you can demonstrate
Storage, removable liners and shade products offer different ways to help an owner. Consider how each one fits your service. A console organizer can be shown at the counter with the owner's everyday items. A trunk insert needs the correct vehicle available so you can demonstrate access to the surrounding storage. A roof shade needs a conversation about the glass area, clips and removal.
Keep appearance pieces as a separate choice. An owner buying a finish for their car has different priorities from someone trying to keep groceries and a stroller organized. Give each product a clear reason to be in the range and a specific vehicle group to serve.
| Candidate family | Useful demonstration | Reason to wait |
|---|---|---|
| Console storage | Show access to a few everyday items and the original console controls. | Console generation or included pieces are unclear. |
| Trunk side storage | Show lids, removal and access beside the customer's usual cargo. | Seat configuration or recess shape has not been checked. |
| Shade | Show the exact glass area and how the product is stored. | Clips or roof configuration cannot be confirmed. |
| Exterior trim | Show the finish and mounting area on the appropriate vehicle. | Camera clearance or installation instructions are unresolved. |
Include the work your team will need to do
Before you add a product, assign someone to unpack a sample, read its instructions and record the fitting questions. A label such as “no drill” describes one part of an installation; it does not establish labour time, clearance or the tools needed for your customer's car. Schedule based on your own observations and the supplied instructions.
Hold electrical modifications, load-bearing equipment and products around sensors until you have the relevant documentation and appropriate installation capability. A cosmetic part leaving a camera lens visible does not prove that a driver-assistance system performs correctly with it installed. Your team should be able to explain that distinction without making an unsupported reassurance.
Check shelf space and the cost of keeping stock
Ask for packed dimensions, shipment weight, variant labels and the packaging configuration. Product size and packed size are different. A large mat set can take useful shelf space even when its unit price looks attractive. Make sure replacement pieces and complete sets can be identified without opening every box.
Use the quote to record product cost, freight and any other charges applicable to your shipment. Separately record the time you spend checking, fitting and answering questions. These entries help you compare candidates. They do not establish a margin until you also decide your own selling price and account for the costs relevant to your business.
Write a first order you can learn from
Give every line a specific variant, a target vehicle group and a purpose. Choose quantities around observed enquiries and your available cash and space. Do not use a single model-level description for several generations, and do not assume products can be mixed to reach a trade tier without confirmation in the written quote.
A hypothetical shop serving mostly refreshed Model Y owners might start by evaluating one console storage configuration and one trunk storage configuration. A shop with more varied vehicles may need a wider set of samples before deciding what to keep. These are selection examples, not a fixed TERVELIO bundle or an order minimum.
Build a range for your type of shop
A detailing shop, an accessory retailer and an installation business do not need the same opening range. Start with the point where a customer naturally sees the product. At an interior-detail handover, a removable console set can be explained through the cable, tissues and small items the owner has just put back. At a retail counter, the same product needs clearer variant labels because the buyer may not have the car with them. In an installation bay, a product also needs a repeatable fitting and inspection process before your team offers it as part of a service.
Choose one main customer group for the pilot, then write a sentence your staff can use: “This set is for the refreshed Model Y console areas shown here; let us compare the layout in your car.” That is easier to support than “This upgrades every Tesla interior.” Give each product a place in the customer conversation, a demonstration vehicle or sample, and someone who can answer follow-up questions.
| Shop setting | A practical starting role | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Interior detailing | Console pieces or removable liners after a clean | A location diagram, removal demonstration and care instructions |
| Accessory retail | Clearly labelled storage options for the vehicle groups customers ask about | Variant-matched packaging, photos and a fitment question sheet |
| Installation business | Products your team can fit and inspect under supplied instructions | A named installer, sample record, labour observations and support responsibility |
A sample scorecard your team can actually complete
Use the following working scorecard for each exact variant. A 0 means unresolved, 1 means documented but not yet checked by your team, and 2 means checked on the named sample and vehicle configuration. These are suggested internal scores, not TERVELIO performance ratings or industry benchmarks. Record the evidence alongside the number. A total score never clears a blocking fitment, safety or instruction issue.
| Question | Evidence to attach | Score (0–2) | Reviewer | Suggested next action if unresolved |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Does the selected variant match our target cars? | Vehicle-area photos and sample identity | Not yet scored | Assign a reviewer | Hold until the mounting configuration is clear |
| Can staff explain the daily job? | Demonstration notes with actual belongings | Not yet scored | Assign a reviewer | Improve the demonstration or remove from the pilot |
| Can normal access and removal be shown? | Observed lid, storage and control access | Not yet scored | Assign a reviewer | Resolve interference before recommending |
| Do contents and care instructions match? | Labelled contents and dated instructions | Not yet scored | Assign a reviewer | Request the missing component or document |
| Can we store and support this option? | Packed dimensions, handling and support notes | Not yet scored | Assign a reviewer | Use enquiry-led supply or choose a smaller range |
Review the card together before ordering. If a storage sample is easy to demonstrate but its model option is unclear, the next action is a fitment clarification, not a larger quantity. If the sample fits but needs too much shelf space for your shop, keep it as an enquiry-led item until you understand demand. The card is useful because it turns a vague feeling into an action and an owner.
Separate retail price, landed cost and your contribution
Use your written quote to calculate a planning cost per sellable unit. Start with the quoted unit cost, add freight allocated by a method you state, then add shipment charges that apply to your business. Do not divide all freight equally if one bulky mat kit uses much more carton space than a small console piece without considering the distortion. Ask your broker or accountant how duties and taxes apply to the actual shipment.
For an internal sales worksheet, calculate contribution as your net selling revenue minus landed product cost and the variable costs of that sale, such as payment fees, fitting labour or a shipping subsidy. List what you included; contribution is not net profit because it does not automatically cover your fixed rent, salaries and overhead. As an invented arithmetic example, a net sale of $80 less $40 landed product cost and $15 variable selling and fitting cost leaves $25 before fixed costs. Those figures are not TERVELIO wholesale terms, a recommended retail price or a margin forecast.
A 30-day pilot with useful review points
- Before launch: resolve the sample card, label each variant, prepare one demonstration and brief the person responsible for questions.
- During the first week: record every relevant enquiry, including vehicle configuration and the customer's practical need. Note whether the product was available and shown.
- At the midpoint: compare demonstrations, purchases and reasons for declining. Fix an unclear explanation before assuming the product has no demand.
- At the end of the pilot: review sales, returns, support work and cash tied up by variant. Choose reorder, revise, enquiry only or pause, and write the reason.
The 30-day window is a suggested review rhythm; a low-volume shop may need longer to see enough relevant vehicles. Do not treat a handful of conversations as a statistically reliable forecast. Keep the number of relevant customers visible beside the sales count so two sales from three demonstrations are not compared casually with two from thirty.
If you use Shopify, its inventory reports can support the review. Its sell-through calculation uses units sold divided by units sold plus ending inventory. Compare a consistent period and exact variant, and check returns and adjustments separately. Your enquiry and fitment notes add context that a sales report cannot supply.
Questions before placing a first order
Should I begin with the most popular products online?
Use popularity to build a research list, then compare it with the vehicles and questions at your own shop. A popular product for a different generation may be the wrong stock for your customers.
Can I mix Model 3 and Model Y accessories in one enquiry?
You can describe both vehicle groups in your enquiry. Ask the supplier to confirm each variant, availability and any rules for the order in the written quote.
What should I postpone?
Postpone products whose fitment, contents, installation requirements or support responsibilities remain unclear. Record what information would allow you to reconsider them.
Do I need a full display before testing demand?
A small, accurate demonstration can be enough to start learning. Keep packaging, variant labels and product information nearby so the customer understands what they would receive.
How many products should a first range contain?
Choose as many as your team can explain, demonstrate and support accurately. A useful pilot can focus on one storage problem and a small number of vehicle-specific options. There is no universal opening SKU count. Your relevant customer enquiries, shelf space, sample results and cash limit should determine the range. Keep a product family separate from its variants: one trunk-bin family can require several stock records when model and lid options differ.
Should slow-moving products be discounted immediately?
First check whether the right customers saw the correct variant and understood the use. A product that was never demonstrated is different from one that customers considered and declined. Record fitment gaps, price objections and practical reasons before changing the selling price. Review the written terms and your own costs when deciding whether to discount, retain an enquiry-only sample or stop reordering.
What should my first quote request include?
Send your business and sales channel, US delivery destination, target model and generation, exact product links and option names, proposed quantities and the sample questions you need answered. Ask for a dated quote showing currency, quantity basis, freight, availability, dispatch assumptions and the applicable trade issue process. A precise request lets both sides discuss the same items; it does not imply a particular order minimum or discount.
